On September 15, 2025, Porto’s Queimódromo hosted pioneering tests with autonomous vehicles as part of the Autonomous Mobility Demonstrator, integrated into the Route 25 Project and funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
The event was organised by Porto Digital and brought together Capgemini Engineering, the Institute of Telecommunications and Nexar Inc., as well as several private entities involved in mobility. As a result, Porto strengthened its role as a living lab for validating innovative technologies in an urban environment.
Objectives and Benefits
The tests made it possible to:
- Consolidate technical knowledge
- Evaluate innovative solutions under controlled conditions
- Build trust in the urban mobility ecosystem
- Position Portugal as a leader in the future of mobility
Technologies in Focus
The highlight was the Cooperative Maneuvers Module, a Capgemini Engineering technology that enables collaborative decision-making between autonomous vehicles through V2X communication supported by a private 5G network.
In addition, the Safety Monitor ensured reliability and active safety in all maneuvers, demonstrating how these solutions can transform urban mobility.
Why Is This Relevant?
Through Route 25, we reinforce our commitment to placing innovation at the service of people and cities, creating a more connected, sustainable and inclusive mobility ecosystem.
